I raggi luminosi che vengono riflessi si polarizzano. I filtri polarizzanti vengono utilizzati per selezionare i raggi di luce che penetrano nell'obiettivo della fotocamera. Possono rimuovere i riflessi indesiderati da superfici non metalliche come acqua o vetro e anche saturare i colori offrendo un migliore contrasto.
