The wedge-tailed eagle is Australia’s largest bird of prey and one of the most powerful raptors in the world.
Renowned for its immense wingspan, exceptional eyesight, and ability to soar effortlessly across vast Australian landscapes, the wedge-tailed eagle symbolises freedom, strength, resilience, and dominance in the skies.
Since its introduction, The Perth Mint’s Australian Wedge-Tailed Eagle series has become one of the most respected modern wildlife coin programs, admired for its stunning artistry and exceptional minting quality.
🎨 Design Description
Both coins feature John M. Mercanti’s dramatic ultra-high relief design portraying a wedge-tailed eagle silhouette in the foreground with a bald eagle positioned behind, both gazing toward the horizon.
Design elements include:
• The inscription “AUSTRALIAN WEDGE-TAILED EAGLE”
• The Perth Mint’s traditional “P” mintmark
• Weight, purity, and 2026 year-date
The 5oz silver edition is further enhanced with luxurious 24-carat gold gilding applied to the eagle imagery and outer rim, creating a stunning contrast against the enhanced reverse proof finish.
The obverse of both coins features the Dan Thorne effigy of His Majesty King Charles III together with their respective denominations.
