Background

Ubiquitin C-terminal hydrolase 1 (UCHL1), also known as neuron-specific protein PGP9.5 and Parkin 5, is one of the most abundant proteins in the brain (1–5 % of total soluble protein) (Day and Thompson, 2010, Wang et al., 2017). It is also expressed at high levels in testicular tissue and its expression may be induced in other cell types often associated with oncogenesis and metastasis (Jara et al., 2013, Nakao et al., 2018). Immunochemical experiments demonstrate that UCHL1 is localized predominantly in neurons and axons in the central and peripheral nervous system (Day and Thompson, 2010, Wilson et al., 1988). At a molecular level, UCHL1 is a relatively small protein (27 kDa) composed of 223-amino-acids encoded by 9 exons (Setsuie and Wada, 2007). Although the role of UCHL1 in vivo remains unclear, its great abundance in neurons suggests a significant role in neuronal cell function. UCHL1 variants and modifications have been linked with neurodegenerative disorders such as Parkinson’s disease (PD), Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and brain injury (Leroy et al., 1998, Liu et al., 2019, Mi et al., 2021a, Nakamura et al., 2021). These modifications diminish UCHL1′s functions, alter its solubility, and interfere with its normal interactions with other proteins, resulting in increased production and impaired degradation of misfolded and aggregated proteins, common features shared by many neurodegenerative disorders and brain injury.

Amazing product but star down on price
I desperately needed a healing lip balm for my perpetually chapped and scarred lips, and at first was skeptical that this was nothing but a glorified aquaphor, which works well enough for me but I was curious about better treatments. After some weeks of regular use, my lips feel incredible. I am sold. I only wish two things: that it was a smidgen cheaper, and that there was a version with SPF so I could have one to wear out during the day and have it’s magic working all the time.

Fantastic for rosacea, PD, atopic dermatitis, dry skin
I’ve been using this for close to a year and it is amazing for my super sensitive and dry skin. I have perioral dermatitis, atopic dermatitis, and rosacea and live in Minnesota with bitter cold and the heater running over half the year. Cicalfate cream doesn’t flare any of these and it helps reduce redness and completely resolves dry skin. I use about a pea size amount AM and PM,, apply to dry skin, massage in, then mist with the Avene thermal water spray. Although the cream is thick, the slight white cast absorbs within a few minutes. I do not wear foundation so I don’t know how this affects it.it doesn’t burn my eyes and I’m a contact lens wearer. A big tube of cream lasts me the better part of a year.

Great for harsh winters
I was recommended this product by ChatGPT as an effective and safe product that my wife (who is currently nursing) can use. We have been very mindful of certain additives and chemicals in our products and this was able to meet our requirements. Separately in the harsh winter in the northeast, this has been extremely effective in protecting the lips
